WHEREAS, Fred Arbanas has been a member of the Legislature since its inception on January 1, 1973; and,
WHEREAS, with the exception of the four one-year terms he served as the Legislature's chairman, Fred has served as chairman of the Land Use Committee since that time; and,
WHEREAS, as chairman of the Land Use Committee, Fred has devoted countless hours to providing legislative oversight to the County's magnificent park system and has served as a valuable conduit by which citizens' comments and concerns can be transmitted to the County administration; and,
WHEREAS, Fred was chairman of Land Use at the time of the largest expansion of the County's park system in recent times, the opening of Longview Lake in 1986; and,
WHEREAS, Fred was particularly instrumental in the planning, development, and construction of the public golf course which the County built and has operated at Longview Lake since its opening; and,
WHEREAS, while no longer an active golfer, Fred remains quite proud of the golf course, a shining example of what government can do to meet the needs and desires of its citizenry; and,
WHEREAS, as Fred begins his eighth term on the Legislature, it is appropriate that the County demonstrate its esteem and gratitude to him for his years of dedicated service; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the golf course at Longview Lake is hereby named the "Longview Lake - Fred Arbanas Golf Course."
