Body
WHEREAS, Lali Garcia, known in Kansas City and Jackson County for her role as a humanitarian, celebrates her 80th birthday on October 24, 2007; and,

WHEREAS, Lali, the oldest of four children, was born to Edward and Alicia Melendez on October 24, 1927; and,

WHEREAS, Lali's father died when she was young, and her mother remarried Ramon Reyes, Sr., who was a wonderful stepfather and a role model to Lali for his involvement with community affairs, always helping individuals in need; and,

WHEREAS, Lali married Jesse L. Garcia on April 14, 1951, and shared fifty-four wonderful years with him until his passing in March 2005; and,

WHEREAS, Lali, is recognized for her outstanding meritorious contributions of local and statewide significance to the improvement, promotion, and development of our Hispanic community; and,
WHEREAS, Lali has rendered exemplary service to the Boards of Directors of the Guadalupe Center, KC Terminal Guadalupe Center Credit Union, and Hispanic Economic Development Corporation, as well as serving as President of the Guadalupe Center, La Raza Political Club, Union Cultural Mexicana, and La Guadalupanas; and,

WHEREAS, Lali's many additional contributions include serving as volunteer for the Casa Feliz Senior Center, member of the Mayor's Breakfast Club Committee, commissioner representing the 1st Legislative District of Jackson County on the Human Relations and Citizen Complaints Commission, commissioner appointed by Mayor Emmanuel Cleaver of the Kansas City Port Authority, 1st Ward Committeewoman, and ...
