RESOLUTION NO. 22048, September 22, 2025

INTRODUCED BY DaRon McGee, Donna Peyton, Jalen Anderson and Venessa Huskey, County Legislators

Body
WHEREAS, Ruby Jean Brooks was born in Weaverville, North Carolina, on January 11, 1936 to Thomas Sr. and Avis Brooks who preceded her in death; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. Brooks and her siblings grew up in Weaverville, North Carolina, after attending Stephens Lee High School in Asheville, North Carolina, she moved to Kansas City, MO, where she joined St. Stephen Baptist Church under the late Dr. John W. Williams; and,

WHEREAS, while serving at St. Stephen Baptist Church, Ms. Brooks was an active member and served under Pastor Dr. Mac Charles Jones, and Pastor Eric Belt, and under their leadership, she served on the Women's International Auxiliary, Usher board, and the Miriam Circle Mission Ministry; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. Brooks later joined Macedonia Baptist Church, where her son, John L. Brooks M. Div. is pastor, she remained faithful until her health began to decline; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. Brooks's love for Christ was evident in her daily life, which she instilled in her children, grandchildren, family, and friends; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. Brooks was employed at Central High, Paramalee, Chubbys, and DocuSort, she was also a homemaker known for her great down?home cooking, some of her best dishes were spaghetti, macaroni and cheese, caramel cake, coconut cake, yeast rolls, and fudge; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. Brooks is preceded in death by her siblings, Thomas Brooks Jr, James Brooks, Nathaniel Brooks and Frankie Millhouse, her two children, La-Vonne Brooks, and
Curtis Williams; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. Brooks leaves to cherish her memory her children, Janet (Darold), Gloucester, Kim, Pamela, Anthony, and John (Teri), twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and a lot of ...
