Body
WHEREAS, Rudy Rhodes, a bus driver for the Lee's Summit R-7 School District, was honored as the State of Missouri School Bus Driver of the Year by the Missouri Association for Pupil Transportation at the association's annual state conference, July 9, 2014, in Springfield, MO; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Rudy, as he is affectionately known throughout the district, has been a bus driver for the district for five years after retiring from the United Parcel Service (UPS); and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Rudy is described by his co-workers as calm, patient, and someone who makes everyone feel special and important; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Rudy, who is also known for treating children with dignity and respect, started the Book Buddies program at Prairie View Elementary School; and,
WHEREAS, Book Buddies is a volunteer program that helps children at the school enhance their reading skills; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Rudy and four other drivers spend an hour per week at the school on a rotating basis, serving as mentors to students that need extra help; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Rudy and his wife of more than 50 years, Ruth, have four children, Robin Hill, Rudolph R. Rhodes IV, Rorick V. Rhodes, and Reiko Rilliford, and nine grandchildren; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Rudy Rhodes upon the occasion of being named as the State of Missouri School Bus Driver of the Year, and extends best wishes to him in all of his future endeavors.
