Body
WHEREAS, John A. Barrera has taken partial retirement after 50 years as a barber, working most of the time in his own shop located at 3908 Waddell; and,

WHEREAS, he attended Motor Barber College at 8th and Main and received his first job at Village Green at 43rd and The Paseo; and,

WHEREAS, after five years of employment, he opened John's Barber Shop and worked hard to make the shop a comfortable and relaxing place for his customers; and,

WHEREAS, a year after opening his own shop, he set the course of his personal life when he married Anna Marie Bernal; and,

WHEREAS, the two of them settled into responsible parenthood, with John working at the barbershop while Anna raised their four daughters; and,

WHEREAS, in time the young couple moved into a new house on the Westside where their Westside roots extended down through four generations; and,

WHEREAS, they now have four daughters, Jo Anna Palacio, Patricia Murillo, Diana Cervantes, and Maria Barrera, and 9 grandchildren ranging in ages from 9-25 years old; and,

WHEREAS, John sang with the Overland Stagecoach Barbershop Chorus for five years and now takes pleasure in singing with the predominately female choir at his church, Sacred Heart Church-Guadalupe Church; and,

WHEREAS, he works with local veterans organizations and serves as the Commander of American Legion Post 609; and,

WHEREAS, more recently, John joined the Tony Aguirre Community Center, where he walks the track while Anna goes for a swim; and,

WHEREAS, over the years hairstyles have come and gone, but John has adapted to them all and is proud that he's never discriminated against a custo...
