Body
WHEREAS, on May 16, 2008, MyARTS held its Annual Benefit, entitled "Chalon Dans La Rue"; and,

WHEREAS, this event had approximately thirty-five sponsors and raised approximately $13,000.00 over seven weeks; and,

WHEREAS, the MyARTS Program is an art entrepreneurial program for youth ages 15 to 19, through which the youth go through a 72-hour unpaid apprenticeship corresponding with a curriculum and, upon completion of the apprenticeship, may be accepted into a studio, thereby becoming MyARTS paid employees; and,

WHEREAS, the MyARTS program gives these students the opportunity to develop their skills, while also teaching them the entrepreneurial side of producing their art; and,

WHEREAS, the MyARTS program has been successful in decreasing the use of marijuana and hard drugs, decreasing delinquency, improving high school GPA's, improving the youths' attitude about the future, relationships with adults, and attitudes about work; and,

WHEREAS, fourteen out of the seventeen MyARTS high school graduates have gone on to college; and,

WHEREAS, the 2008 Committee included Chair Jennifer Newman, and Committee members Angela Castle, Amanda Clark, Annie Premis, Christina Bernstein, Deana Bellamaganya, Jeanna Howard, Jamie Berg, Honorable Karen McCarthy, Kelly Rose-Garrity, Mary Jo Spino, Nicole Gravino, and Tammie Jordan; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes the MyARTS program and all those involved in the program and the annual benefit for their hard work and dedication to this beneficial program.
