Body
WHEREAS, initiated in 2001, the Lee's Summit Voluntary Residential Development Surcharge was originally recommended by a City of Lee's Summit citizens' task force; and,
WHEREAS, the surcharge is designed to help the rapidly growing Lee's Summit R-7 and Blue Springs R-4 School Districts cope with increasing enrollments; and,
WHEREAS, this voluntary program has been approved by the Lee's Summit City Council and endorsed by the Lee's Summit R-7 Board of Education; and,
WHEREAS, under this program, developers are asked to voluntarily pay a fee of $1,000 per housing unit within the city limits of Lee's Summit; and,
WHEREAS, the school district where the housing unit is located receives all of the fee and uses the funds for new construction and renovation; and,
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the health, welfare, and safety of the citizens of Jackson County that the Legislature support this program and extend it to development occurring in unincorporated Jackson County; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby expresses its support for the Lee's Summit Voluntary Residential Development Surcharge and for the extension of a similar voluntary surcharge to residential development in unincorporated Jackson County.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
