Body
WHEREAS, the Ad Hoc Group Against Crime was conceived in 1977 by Alvin Brooks, a former Kansas City police officer and City official, in response to a series of unresolved homicides which had raised concerns in the African-American community; and,

WHEREAS, since that time, Ad Hoc and Mr. Brooks have become a force in reducing crime, violence, drugs, and gangs; and,

WHEREAS, in its activities, Ad Hoc stresses spirituality, morality, responsibility, self-worth, and family values; and,

WHEREAS, the group has received national recognition for its community-based crime fighting; and,

WHEREAS, Ad Hoc was designated as one of the One Thousand Points of Light by President Bush; and,

WHEREAS, the group has also assisted Jackson County by becoming a key substance abuse prevention agency; and,

WHEREAS, Ad Hoc has helped COMBAT make the treatment/law enforcement partnership a reality; and,

WHEREAS, the group was the front runner in what is now known as "Community Policing;" and,

WHEREAS, on November 7, 1997, the community recognized the Ad Hoc and Mr. Brooks at an anniversary celebration dinner at the Crown Center Hotel in Kansas City; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby commends the Ad Hoc Group Against Crime and its president, Alvin Brooks, on their twenty years of combatting crime in Jackson County...Attorney
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
