RESOLUTION # 14628, June 9, 2003

INTRODUCED BY Bob Spence, County Legislator

Body
WHEREAS, David Zanoni, a senior at Lee's Summit North High School, was recently nominated by the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals as one of Missouri's top 100 academic students in the graduating class of 2003; and,

WHEREAS, nominated students ranked in the top 10 percent of their class with upper-level courses in mathematics, english, science, and foreign language, and met the criteria of an "Academic Decathlon," which included 10 "events" designed to assure academic strength; and,

WHEREAS, nominees needed a minimum grade point average of 3.57 and a minimum ACT score of 29 or a minimum SAT score of 1,300; and,

WHEREAS, excellent attendance and involvement with school and community activities were also considered in the criteria for nomination; and,

WHEREAS, David's involvement with school activities include: Vice president and founding member of the National German Society, JV scholar team captain, German Club member (3 years), and Science Knowledge Bowl member (2 years); and,

WHEREAS, he received two national awards for Air Force JROTC as a freshman, one of which was from the Veterans of Foreign Wars; and,

WHEREAS, as a Sophomore, he received a position on the AFJROTC staff, the highest rank a sophomore could achieve; and,

WHEREAS, his scholastic achievements include: National Honor Society Member, National German Honor Society and Duke T.I.P. national recognition in Math; and

WHEREAS, he received letters in Academics (3), JROTC(2), and Scholar Team(3); and,

WHEREAS, in 2001, he was named runner-up sophomore chemistry Student of the Year, and,

WHEREAS, in 2002, he led the Junior Varsity Scholar Team to a 3rd place finish; and,
