INTRODUCED BY Victor E. Callahan, and Dennis Waits, County Legislators

Body
WHEREAS, Veronica A. Powell has been employed by the City of Sugar Creek from February 1964 through January 1999; and,

WHEREAS, Mrs. Powell has served in various capacities while with the City of Sugar Creek, including a part-time clerical position in the City Clerk's Office and Utility Department, and as Deputy City Clerk; and,

WHEREAS, Mrs. Powell has held the position of City Clerk since May 1, 1978 and assumed the duties of Finance Officer on April 1, 1988; and,

WHEREAS, on January 19, 1977, Mrs. Powell was elected as President of the Western Division of the Missouri City Clerks & Finance Officers Association; and,

WHEREAS, during her tenure with the City of Sugar Creek, Mrs. Powell has held membership in the Missouri City Clerks & Finance Officers Association, Missouri Municipal Finance Officers Association, International Institute of Municipal Clerks, Kansas City Chapter of the International Personnel Management Association, and Sugar Creek Business & Civic Club; and,

WHEREAS, among her many other accomplishments, Mrs. Powell was instrumental in the process of the City of Sugar Creek receiving the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the years 1994 through 1997; and,

WHEREAS, Mrs. Powell has been married to her husband, Don, for 43 years and has two children, Greg and Jayne, and one wonderful grandson, Ryan; and,

WHEREAS, on Friday, January 29, 1999, the City of Sugar Creek will honor Mrs. Powell upon her retirement with a Special Appreciation Day; and,

WHEREAS, Mrs. Powell will be greatly missed by her friends and co-workers at the City of Sugar Creek; therefore,
