Body

WHEREAS, Mark McLaughlin a senior at Lee's Summit High School was recently selected out of more than 2,600 students as a candidate for the 2005 Presidential Scholars Program; and,

WHEREAS, Mark is the son of Donald and Cheryl McLaughlin and the brother of Matthew; and,

WHEREAS, Mark has a remarkable academic record with a grade point average of 4.55 on a 4.0 scale and is ranked number one (1) out of five hundred and eighty-four (584) students; and,

WHEREAS, Mark scored a thirty-five (35) out of thirty-six (36) on his ACT, a 1560 out of 1600 on his SAT and a 750 out of 800 on his SAT II; and,

WHEREAS, in addition to Mark's academic achievements, he is also involved in a number of school activities including the Comedy Troupe, Student Senate, Golf Team, Math Team, Theater, Band, and Eagle Scouts, as well as being the President of the National Honor Society, the Vice-President of the Chess Club, and the captain of the Scholar Bowl Team; and,

WHEREAS, he has received many honors and awards during his tenure at Lee's Summit High School including the Missouri Knights of Columbus Student of the Month Award, the Ivan Slaughter Outstanding Science Student Award, Rotary and Optimist Student of the Month Award, White Rose Essay Contest Grand Prize Winner, National Merit Semi-Finalist, a Missouri Top 100 Scholars, and an International Baccalaureate Diploma Candidate; and,

WHEREAS, Mark was named Student of the Year in Pre-IB Biology, Pre-IB Chemistry, IB Chemistry, and History; and,

WHEREAS, Ben plans to the University of Notre Dame to study either Physics, and/or Chemistry or Chemistry Engineering; now therefore,
