Body
WHEREAS, on Earth Day 2024, Jackson County Parks + Rec welcomes our citizens to enjoy the remarkable parks and open spaces that enrich our community; and,

WHEREAS, as the largest parks system in the State of Missouri, Jackson County Parks + Rec manages over 21,000 acres of parks, lakes, and recreational areas, providing opportunities for our citizens to connect with nature and experience the beauty of the outdoors; and,

WHEREAS, conservation and restoration of natural areas are integral to the mission of Parks + Rec, exemplifying their dedication to preserving the environment for current and future generations; and,

WHEREAS, through collaboration with numerous agencies and community organizations, including the Missouri Department of Conservation, the Heartland Conservation Alliance, the Burroughs Audubon Society, Bridging the Gap, and the Thomas Hart Benton Chapter of the Sierra Club, Jackson County Parks + Rec has undertaken significant efforts to remove invasive plant species, enhance wildlife habitats, and maintain the safety and accessibility of our parks; and,

WHEREAS, Jackson County Parks + Rec is embarking on a major tree planting initiative in partnership with the Heartland Tree Alliance and Kansas City Parks and Recreation, which will contribute to the restoration and preservation of our natural landscape; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri that the Legislature hereby recognizes and commends the Parks + Rec Department for its outstanding efforts in creating and maintaining sustainable outdoor spaces for the enjoyme...
