Body
WHEREAS, Truman Medical Center (TMC) East has been providing health care to the residents of Eastern Jackson County since the mid-1800's; and,
WHEREAS, TMC East manages and operates the Jackson County Health Department in Independence, and is a primary teaching institution for the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Health Sciences; and,
WHEREAS, TMC East also meets the demands of a growing elderly population through the Gerontology Fellowship program by enhancing the quality of life and care of its residents; and,
WHEREAS, TMC East is now responding to the increased demand for health care with expanded ambulatory clinics and emergency room and ancillary services; and,
WHEREAS, the new Truman East Care Centre is a state-of-the-art health facility housing long-term care residents, replacing the 1908 and 1930 buildings which are being converted into new offices for the Department of Family and Community Medicine and a number of ancillary services; and,
WHEREAS, TMC's project team consisted of architects Wilson Johnson Associates of Overland Park and By Design of Kansas City, project manager J.E. Dunn Construction Company of Kansas City, and DiCarlo Construction of Kansas City; and,
WHEREAS, on June 20, 1997, the fiftieth anniversary of the Truman Doctrine, TMC East dedicates the new Truman East Care Centre and Ambulatory/Emergency Services Renovation/Expansion by reaffirming its commitment toward providing top-quality health care into the twenty-first century; and,
