Body
WHEREAS, the voters of Jackson County, Missouri, renewed their sales tax for seven years to provide funding for the fight against illegal drugs in our community; and,

WHEREAS, the proceeds and interest generated from this tax are deposited in a special Jackson County Anti-Drug Sales Tax Trust Fund that is segregated and not commingled with the general fund or any other special funds of the County; and,

WHEREAS, the voters and the Legislature authorized the COMBAT Commission, subject to approval by the Legislature, to contract with any organization or entity, whether public or private, which engages in community crime prevention activities, for the purpose of preventing drug and drug-related offenses; and,

WHEREAS, by Resolution 15795 and 15796, dated February 21, 20076, the Legislature did award contracts, upon the recommendation of the COMBAT Commission, to certain agencies which engage in prevention activities for the 2007 fiscal year; and,
WHEREAS, the COMBAT Commission is in the process of soliciting proposals from prevention agencies for the provision of services in the 2008 fiscal year until; and,

WHEREAS, until such time as the 2008 proposals can be evaluated and contracts awarded, the COMBAT Commission recommends that the contracts with the 2007 prevention agencies be extended for a period of four months, in the respective amounts set forth on Exhibit A, to allow for the uninterrupted provision of prevention services; now therefore,
