Body
WHEREAS, on February 22, 2000, Keith Thompson, an Independence resident and maintenance custodian at William Bryant Elementary School in the Blue Springs School District, was traveling south on M-291 in Independence; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson observed a Blazer passing him at a high rate of speed and noticed a child being dragged by the vehicle; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson pursued the Blazer and attempted to alert the driver by honking his horn; and,
WHEREAS, the Blazer took the Noland Road exit off of I-70 and Mr. Thompson, with assistance from people in other vehicles, was able to stop the driver at a nearby intersection and hold him until the police arrived to evaluate the situation; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature commends Keith Thompson for his bravery and heroic action and for his efforts in putting another's safety above his own.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
