A RESOLUTION congratulating Elle Moxley on her recent designation as a National Merit Scholarship finalist.

RESOLUTION # 15898, May 22, 2006

INTRODUCED BY Bob Spence, County Legislator


WHEREAS, Elle Moxley, daughter of Debra and Chip Moxley, is a senior at Lee's Summit North High School and has earned the designation of finalist in the National Merit Scholarship program; and,

WHEREAS, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, founded in 1955, conducts an annual National Merit Scholarship competition by administering the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which produces a nationwide pool of semi-finalists representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest scoring entrants in each state; and,

WHEREAS, National Merit Scholarship finalists will be eligible for National Merit Scholarship awards; and,

WHEREAS, through her pursuit of academic excellence, Elle has earned the designation of National Merit Scholarship finalist; and,

WHEREAS, Elle is an active student at Lee's Summit North High School where she is editor of the Northern Exposure newspaper, assistant editor of the Aurora yearbook, National Honor Society member, and a member of Youth in Government; and,

WHEREAS, she has earned numerous awards and honors including Northern Exposure's Best Entertainment Article, Outstanding Writer of the Year, Best News Article, Best In-Depth Article, and Journalist of the Year, Missouri Youth in Government's Outstanding Press Editor and Outstanding Associate Editor, and Excellent and Superior ratings at the Missouri Interscholastic Press Association Journalism day; and,

WHEREAS, in addition to her academic achievements, Elle is an active community member who has volunteered her time working concessions at community swim meets, assisting with Oktoberfest, and teaching French to Underwood fifth graders; and,
