Body
WHEREAS, November is recognized nationally as Native American Heritage Month, a
time to honor the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of Native peoples across the United States; and,
WHEREAS, the Heart of America Indian Center, Inc., doing business as the Kansas City
Indian Center, has served as the Kansas City area's only multi-purpose social service agency for Native Americans since its incorporation in 1971; and,
WHEREAS, the Center was born from the grassroots efforts of local elders who, in the wake of World War II and federal urban relocation and termination policies, sought to preserve their cultural and spiritual traditions and assist Native Americans relocating to the metropolitan area; and,
WHEREAS, for over five decades, the Kansas City Indian Center has remained steadfast in its mission to encourage the social, educational, and economic advancement of the Native American community by promoting traditional and cultural values; and,
WHEREAS, the Center's annual residential youth camp has been empowering youth, developing leaders, and building community for 44 years; and,
WHEREAS, the Center provides vital health, social, and cultural services to Native American individuals and families, advocates on their behalf, fosters intertribal fellowship, and supports artistic and vocational pursuits; and,
WHEREAS, the Kansas City Indian Center continues to be a beacon of resilience, unity, and cultural pride for Native Americans in the Kansas City region and beyond; now therefore,
