Body
WHEREAS, the voters of Jackson County, Missouri, approved imposition of a sales tax for seven years to provide funding for the fight against illegal drugs in our community; and,

WHEREAS, the proceeds and interest generated from this tax are deposited in a special Jackson County Anti-Drug Sales Tax Trust Fund that is segregated and not commingled with the general fund or any other special funds of the County; and,

WHEREAS, by Ordinance 2214, dated July 12, 1993, the Legislature authorized the Prosecuting Attorney to provide the local matching funds to federal, state, and private grants to programs ser ing the purposes of the prevention, investigation, and prosecution of drug and drug-related offenses; nd,

WHEREAS, Visible Horizons has requested matching funds in the amount of $25,000, to match grants received from the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation and Affiliated Trusts, in the amount of $20,000, the Hall Family Foundation, in the amount of $25,000, the National Starch and Chemical Company, in the amount of $2,500, the Boatmen's Foundation in the amount of $5,000, and the Village Presbyterian Church in the amount of $5,000; and,

WHEREAS, Visible Horizons engages in community crime prevention activities, and has been in existence for at least five years, and is otherwise qualified to contract with the County for the expenditure of anti-drug sales tax funds; and,

WHEREAS, the Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney desires to assist this organization in the provision of services and has recommended the expenditure of anti-drug sales tax funds for this organization, to assist in the prevention of drug and drug-related offe...
