Body
WHEREAS, Garry Kemp has been announced as the fifth recipient of the coveted Organized Labor’s Representative of the Year Award, which will be presented at a festive celebration and dinner reception to be held April 26, 2002, at Harrah’s Hotel and Casino in North Kansas City, Missouri; and,

WHEREAS, a native of Kansas City, Missouri, Garry graduated from Truman High School, attained the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts, and later attended Central Missouri State University before joining the Asbestos Workers Area Joint Apprenticeship Program in 1969; and,

WHEREAS, Garry Kemp was elected to the executive board of Asbestos Workers Local 27 in 1974, and was elected president in 1977 and business manager in 1988; and,

WHEREAS, Garry serves as trustee on the executive board of the National Asbestos Workers Medical Fund, the supervisory chairperson for the United Labor Credit Union, a board member of the Community Blood Center, a member of the board of directors for the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City, a board member for Kansas City Kansas Chamber of Commerce, secretary of the Labor Management Council, a member of the executive board for the Missouri State Building Trades Council, a member of the board of directors for CORO, and a board member of Project ReFocus; and,

WHEREAS, Garry Kemp was the recipient of the 2000 Labor Management Council Award, which recognizes outstanding performance in bettering labor/management relationships; and,

WHEREAS, Garry Kemp also received the 2002 United Way Labor Volunteer of the Year Award; and,
