WHEREAS, although most law enforcement agencies across the country have some sort of union representation, the officers of the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department have never before had representation related to the conditions of employment for the rank and file officers; and,
WHEREAS, the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department now officially recognizes the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 99 as the exclusive bargaining unit for all Kansas City, Missouri, Police Officers below the rank of Captain; and,
WHEREAS, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 99 President Sgt. Brad Dumit stated, "Not only is this a historic event for the officers on our department, it allows us to actively participate in those matters that affect our jobs on a daily basis"; and,
WHEREAS, Kansas City Councilman John Sharp noted the importance of this achievement to the city as a whole, providing a formal process for the officers who are in the neighborhoods to voice insight and concern, leading to more effective law enforcement; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby acknowledges and congratulates the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department on the official recognition of the Department's Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 99 as the exclusive bargaining unit.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
