INTRODUCED BY James D. Tindall, Theresa Garza Ruiz, Crystal Williams, Fred Arbanas, Scott Burnett, Dennis Waits, Dan Tarwater, Greg Grounds and Bob Spence, County Legislators


Body
WHEREAS, Randy Wisthoff is celebrating his 10th anniversary as the Executive Director of the Kansas City Zoo; and,

WHEREAS, prior to joining the Kansas City Zoo, Randy worked at the highly regarded Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska for 26 years; and,

WHEREAS, upon joining the Kansas City Zoo, Randy was faced with daunting budgetary challenges that he tackled head on, balancing the zoo's budget in less than a year; and,

WHEREAS, Randy has overseen numerous improvements to the zoo, resulting in a 221 percent increase in zoo visitors, to an anticipated 915,000 guests for 2014; and,

WHEREAS, Randy has led the way to several of the Kansas City Zoo's recognitions, including its being named a top 60 zoo in the United States in 2008, number one zoo in the nation for African animals and exhibits, a top 10 zoo in the nation for Australian animals and exhibits, and a top 10 zoo for pachyderms: elephants, rhinos, and hippos; and,

WHEREAS, most recently the zoo has been recognized for its world class polar bear and penguin exhibits; and,

WHEREAS, Randy is a Conservation Ambassador for the Missouri Department of Conservation and serves as a board member for the Zoo Conservation Outreach Group and the Convention and Visitors Association of Kansas City, Missouri; and,

WHEREAS, Randy resides in Lee's Summit, MO, with his wife of more than 40 years, Barb; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Randy Wisthoff on his 10th anniversary as Executive...
