INTRODUCED BY Scott Burnett, Theresa Garza Ruiz, Henry C. Rizzo, and Dan Tarwater, County Legislators


Body
WHEREAS, Rev. David Bulkley founded City Union Mission, which has grown from a soup kitchen to a multi-service outreach to the community; and,

WHEREAS, at City Union Mission, individuals and families can find nourishment, comfort from the elements, safety from criminal intent, and, if they choose, can also participate in a long term recovery program that includes food, shelter, clothing, counseling, case management, life skills training, a 12-step recovery program, and much more; and,

WHEREAS, City Union Mission is the largest rescue mission in a six state area which includes Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Iowa, and Nebraska; and,

WHEREAS, City Union Mission also provides urban core youth school supplies, has a food pantry available for people who may have a place to stay but who are without food, and has a clothing room which offers free clothing for both clients staying in one of the shelters and for those who are not; and,


WHEREAS, City Union Mission also has an after-school program, which includes crafts, cooking, sports, and tutoring for children struggling in their studies; and,

WHEREAS, each summer, over 400 urban core youth attend the Mission's summer camp near Warsaw, Missouri, for a week of crafts, swimming, chapel, archery and other sports; and,

WHEREAS, City Union Mission is funded solely by the generosity of the members of the community and is an invaluable asset deserving of special recognition as it celebrates a milestone of utmost significance in the area of public service; and,

WHEREAS, the County commends City Union Mission and its volunteers, and calls upon the citizens of Jackson County...
