Body
WHEREAS, Kyle Angle, a senior at Lee's Summit High School, was named a National Merit Scholarship finalist; and,
WHEREAS, National Merit Scholarship winners are chosen from the finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies; and,
WHEREAS, Kyle is a member of the National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, Math Club, Sounds of Summit Chamber Choir, and participates as a math tutor, a pianist for the jazz band and pit orchestra, and competes in science and math competitions; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to being a Merit Scholarship finalist, Kyle was recently selected for the Missouri Scholars 100 program, a statewide program that honors 100 of Missouri's top academic students; and,
WHEREAS, the National Merit Scholarship award was founded in 1955 as a privately financed, not-for-profit corporation that operates without government assistance; and,
WHEREAS, scholarships awarded are underwritten by nearly 500 independent sponsor organizations and institutions as well as with the corporation's own funds; and,
WHEREAS, nearly 1.5 million students throughout the United States entered the 2014 Merit Program as juniors by taking the preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which serves as an initial screen of program entrants; and,
WHEREAS, Kyle's parents, Jenny and Jim Angle, are justifiably proud of their son; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Kyle Angle upon his recognition as a National Merit Scholarship Finalist and a Missouri Scholars ...
