A RESOLUTION congratulating Erica Koval upon her recent selection for the 2003 Missouri Scholars 100.

RESOLUTION # 14627, June 9, 2003

INTRODUCED BY Bob Spence, County Legislator

Body
WHEREAS, Erica Koval, a senior at Lee's Summit North High School, was recently nominated by the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals as one of Missouri's top 100 academic students in the graduating class of 2003; and,

WHEREAS, nominated students ranked in the top 10 percent of their class with upper-level courses in mathematics, english, science, and foreign language, and met the criteria of an "Academic Decathlon," which included 10 "events" designed to assure academic strength; and,

WHEREAS, nominees needed a minimum grade point average of 3.57 and a minimum ACT score of 29 or a minimum SAT score of 1,300; and,

WHEREAS, excellent attendance and involvement with school and community activities were also considered in the criteria for nomination; and,

WHEREAS, Erica is currently ranked in the top 1% of her senior class and is actively involved in numerous extracurricular activities including: French National Honor Society (10-11), French Club (9,11), Math Club (9, 11), Marching Band (9-11), Lee's Summit North tennis team (10), Lee's Summit North Forensics team (10), and Scholar Team (11); and,

WHEREAS, her scholastic achievements include National Honor Society Member (7-11), Royal's Straight "A" award recipient, 1st place out of 400 in CML (Math competition), and National recognition in the Duke program; and,

WHEREAS, she was, vice-president of the French Club (11) and a past-member and Flight Commander of JROTC class (9); and

WHEREAS, Erica's future plans are to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and,

WHEREAS, she deserves the highest of praise for her many academic accomplishments; therefore,
