Body
WHEREAS, the State of Missouri is located within the cental United States and is subject to damaging earthquakes within the New Madrid Seismic Zone; and,

WHEREAS, following a seismic occurrence and upon declaration of a State of Emergency by the Governor of the State of Missouri, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission will immediately implement a Emergency Preparedness Plane for Major Earthquakes; and,

WHEREAS, a timely and effective response to such an occurrence is imperative to minimize injury, illness, and loss of life; and,


WHEREAS, the County and the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission desire to enter into an Agreement, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, whereby the County will assist with the implementation of a emergency preparedness plan for major earthquakes within the New Madrid Seismic Zone; and,
WHEREAS, under this Agreement if the Commission determines that Missouri Department of Transportation crews and equipment stationed in Jackson County are necessary to respond to the affected area, the County will provide resources to maintain state highways in Jackson County, at the Commission's expense; and,

WHEREAS, the execution of this Cooperative Agreement with the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission is in the best interest of the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of the County; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Agreement is hereby approved and that the County Executive is authorized to...
