Body
WHEREAS, the County has a continuing need to provide assistance to victims of domestic violence; and,
WHEREAS, on October 1, 1984, the voters of Jackson County authorized the County Legislature to impose a $5.00 fee on marriage licenses and a $10.00 fee on dissolutions granted by the Jackson County Court, the proceeds of which are to be used to provide funds for assistance to victims of domestic violence; and
WHEREAS, the County actually imposed said fee by Ordinance No. 1230, dated August 13, 1984;
WHEREAS, by Ordinance No. 3047, dated July 31, 2000, the Legislature authorized collection of a fee of $2.00 upon the filing of a civil case pursuant to § 452.305 and § 455.205, RSMo Supp. 1999; and
WHEREAS, Hope House, New House, and Rose Brooks Domestic Violence Shelters are not-for-profit organizations providing assistance to victims of domestic violence; and,
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the public health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Jackson County to fund assistance to the victims of domestic violence through these shelters; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the County Executive is authorized to execute the Agreements attached hereto with Hope House, New House, and Rose Brooks Domestic Violence Shelters in the amount of $50,000.00 each, at a total cost to the County not to exceed $150,000.00; and,
