Body
WHEREAS, Matt Habermehl, a William Chrisman High School Class of 2002 graduate was named by The Kansas City Star as his school's Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 2002; and,

WHEREAS, Matt ranked 60th in his class of 338, with a 3.375 grade point average on a 4.0 weighted scale; and,

WHEREAS, he has been successful in a college preparatory program of study and made the A/B honor roll all four years of high school; and,

WHEREAS, at 6'8" Matt has been an outstanding basketball player, being named all-district and receiving five Varsity sports letters; and,

WHEREAS, he is also an award winning baseball pitcher and first-baseman, being named all-conference; and,

WHEREAS, as a member of Independence Hi-Boy Drive-In/Post 340 American Legion baseball team, manager Gary Stone is expecting an excellent season from Matt, and has said Matt's performance as a pitcher is "outstanding;" and,
WHEREAS, while in high school Matt participated in soccer, Spanish Club, Foreign Language Festival, Chrisman Television Broadcasting (CTV) and Student Council; and,

WHEREAS, Matt has volunteered on many occasions with his church youth group and attended a mission trip to Puerto Rico in 1999; and,

WHEREAS, additionally, he has volunteered as a tutor for younger students, and as a youth YMCA basketball coach, at the Salvation Army; and,

WHEREAS, Matt is not only a top scholar and star athlete, but "he is a person of quiet integrity and good work ethic," said Carol Kelley, Guidance Counselor at William Chrisman High School; and,

WHEREAS, Matt is the son of Glenn and Donna Habermehl of Independence; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County...
