Body
WHEREAS, Earth Day was first celebrated on April 22, 1970, marking the birth of the modern environmental movement and continues to be a globally recognized day of action dedicated to raising awareness and promoting efforts to protect our planet; and,

WHEREAS, Earth Day serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to safeguard the environment for future generations through conservation, sustainability, and innovation; and,

WHEREAS, Jackson County is home to vibrant ecosystems, public parks, and natural resources that contribute to the health, well-being, and economic vitality of our residents; and,

WHEREAS, residents, businesses, schools, and organizations across Jackson County are encouraged to participate in community cleanups, tree planting, educational events, and sustainable practices in honor of Earth Day; and,


WHEREAS, the Jackson County Legislature recognizes the urgent challenges posed by climate change, pollution, and environmental degradation, and acknowledges the need for local government to take an active role in addressing these issues; and,

WHEREAS, the Legislature supports efforts to promote environmental education, sustainable development, and climate resilience in Jackson County and beyond; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby honors Earth Day on April 22, 2025, and encourages all Jackson County residents to celebrate and participate in meaningful environmental action throughout the year.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
