WHEREAS, Raytown letter carrier, Vickie Brandt has been honored by the U.S. Postal Service for her heroism and quick response to a mother's crisis on December 10, 2001, which helped the Raytown Police recover a stolen vehicle with a 3-year-old child in the back seat; and,
WHEREAS, Vickie was delivering mail when she saw a Ford Excursion peel out of a driveway in the 5700 block of Blue Ridge Boulevard and heard a mother's cries for her baby; and,
WHEREAS, Vickie acted instinctively and helped the distraught mother dial 911; and,
WHEREAS, her quick response led the Raytown Police Department to a suspect in the stolen vehicle carrying the mother's 3-year-old child in the back seat; and,
WHEREAS, Vickie has been an employee with the U.S. Postal Service for 17 years; and,
WHEREAS, she has been trained under the Postal Service's Carrier Alert Program, a program which instructs carriers to alert authorities about suspicious behavior, mail pile-ups in an older adult's home, and other unusual circumstances; and,
WHEREAS, the U.S. Postal Service rewarded Vickie on Friday with a Special Recognition Award at the Raytown post office; and,
WHEREAS, Vickie is a hero by the standards of the citizens of Jackson County and especially to the family of the child she helped rescue on December 10, 2001; and,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature commends Vickie Brandt for her heroism and quick action in assisting the Raytown Police with recovering a stolen vehicle and returning a 3-year-o...
