Body
WHEREAS, Kelsey Bass, a Lee's Summit West High School Senior, was selected for the 2009 Missouri Scholars 100, a statewide program that honors Missouri's top 100 academic students in the 2009 graduating class; and,

WHEREAS, to be considered for the Missouri Scholars 100, the student must have a minimum GPA of 3.75, a minimum ACT score of 29 or a minimum SAT score of 1,900, be ranked in the upper 10 percent of the class, have taken upper-level courses in mathematics, science, English and foreign language, have excellent attendance, be an exemplary school citizen and be involved in school activities; and,

WHEREAS, Kelsey has a GPA of 4.47 on a 4.0 scale and is ranked 4th out of 340 students in her class; and,

WHEREAS, throughout high school Kelsey has been involved in theater as an actor and props crew head, is a member of National Honor Society, and is an International Baccalaureate Diploma Candidate; and,

WHEREAS, Kelsey will be traveling with the theater department to London, England, during the summer, with the opportunity to meet actor Ian McKellen; and,

WHEREAS, Kelsey will attend the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, MO, in the fall, and plans on majoring in chemistry and minoring in physics and possibly Spanish, with the goal of earning a Ph.D. and becoming a research chemist; and,

WHEREAS, Kelsey's parents, Paul and Debbie, and her four older siblings join in Kelsey's celebration of this distinguished award; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes Kelsey Bass upon her selection as to the Missouri Scholar 100 program and wishes her well in all her future endeavors....
