Body
WHEREAS, Geneva Miller, a Lee's Summit North High School senior, has been named a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship program; and,

WHEREAS, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, founded in 1955, is a privately- financed, not-for-profit corporation that operates without government assistance, and provides National Merit Scholarship awards, worth approximately $33 million; and,

WHEREAS, National Merit Scholarships are underwritten by nearly 500 independent sponsor organizations and institutions as well as with the corporation's own funds; and,

WHEREAS, through her pursuit of academic excellence, Geneva has earned the designation of National Merit Scholarship finalist, carries a GPA of 4.54 on a 4.0 scale and is ranked 2nd in her class of 464; and,

WHEREAS, Geneva is an active student at Lee's Summit North, where she has participated in debate, Youth in Government, the Harmony Council, Mock Trial, was a member of the varsity girls' swim team and tennis team, worked on Northern Exposure, the school newspaper, and was elected the minority leader for the Girls State House of Representatives; and,

WHEREAS, Geneva is also an active community member, participating in Lee's Summit Historical Tours, the Vietnam Veterans Presentation, the Youth Advisory Council, and vacation bible school as a music teacher, and acting as part of the Human Relations Commission for Lee's Summit; and,

WHEREAS, Geneva has also received the honors of being named Homecoming Queen in 2008, and excelling as a debate national qualifier in 2009; and,

WHEREAS, Geneva plans to attend Columbia University in New York City in the fall; and,
