Body
WHEREAS, during the week of St. Patrick's Day celebrations, the renowned St. Mary's Brass & Reed Band from County Kildare, Ireland will be performing throughout the Kansas City area; and,
WHEREAS, this distinguished band originated in 1796 when it led a parade of eminent visitors through the streets of Maynooth; and,
WHEREAS, except for a hiatus in the 1920's, the band has been an active and celebrated force in its homeland of Ireland; and,
WHEREAS, the early band played at many notable funeral services, including those of Daniel O'Connell in 1847 and Charles Stewart in 1891; and,
WHEREAS, the later band has performed for such notable individuals as Presidents O'Calaig, Hillery, Childers, and Robinson, as well as the King and Queen of Spain, and Pope John Paul II when he visited Ireland; and,
WHEREAS, among its many accomplishments, the band won the National Junior Concert Band Championship in Dublin; and,
WHEREAS, the band will perform in the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Kansas City on March 17 and will make appearances at various locations during the week of March 15-22, 1998; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature welcomes the arrival of St. Mary's Brass & Reed Band to Jackson County, Missouri, and congratulates it on its many successful years of performing.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
