Body
WHEREAS, the Purple Heart is the oldest U.S. military decoration in use, having been initially created as the badge of Military Merit by General George Washington in 1782; and,

WHEREAS, the Purple Heart was the first American service award or decoration made available to the common soldier and is specifically awarded to members of the United States Armed Forces who have been wounded or who made the ultimate sacrifice in combat; and,

WHEREAS, Jackson County has a long and proud history of men and women veterans, who have paid the high price of freedom by leaving their families, friends, and homes and placing themselves in harm's way to help secure liberty for all of our citizens; and

WHEREAS, many men and women in uniform have made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives while serving in the Armed Forces; and

WHEREAS, a great many other men and women, to include those from Jackson County, have sacrificed parts of themselves for this great country as a result of being wounded while engaged in combat with an enemy force; and

WHEREAS, Jackson County seeks to remember and recognize all veterans, especially those from Jackson County, who are the recipients of the Purple Heart, by displaying Purple Heart signs at each courthouse and throughout the County; now therefore,
