Body
WHEREAS, Ireland's cultural movement, Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, was founded in 1951 to promote Irish traditional music, song, dance, and language; and,
WHEREAS, it first emerged in 1951 from the old Pipers' Club on Thomas Street, Dublin, whose members converged on Mullingar for the first Fleadh Ceoil, a successful round of musical competitions, as well as a festival and celebratory forum for native culture; and,
WHEREAS, Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann was selected to represent Ireland at the Japan Expo as well as the Expo in Spain; and,
WHEREAS, nineteen of Ireland's finest artists, collectively known as the Echoes of Erin, are touring North America for Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann; and,
WHEREAS, during its 27th annual concert tours scheduled for October 6 to October 25, the artists will perform in Kansas City on Friday, October 16, at the Folly Theater; and,
WHEREAS, a warm welcome is extended to the Echoes of Erin and appreciation is given for bringing traditional Irish music, song, dance, and humor to the citizens of Jackson County; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature recognizes the 1998 North American Tour of the Echoes of Erin for the fine Irish entertainment they bring to the Jackson County area.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
