INTRODUCED BY James D. Tindall and Dennis Waits, County Legislators

Body
WHEREAS, COMBAT is leading a comprehensive, multidisciplinary, community-based approach to fighting illicit drugs throughout Jackson County; and,

WHEREAS, some eighty-six agencies throughout the County receive financial support from COMBAT and form a significant component of the effective network of law enforcement, treatment, prevention, community policing, neighborhood prosecution, drug court, and family court; and,

WHEREAS, the legislatively appointed Special Advisory Committee in 1993 recommended that informing the taxpayer about the services and progress of each of these programs was imperative; and,

WHEREAS, COMBAT created an information line in partnership with the Metropolitan Kansas City Bar Association to provide a menu of information about COMBAT programs and services which has received over 5,000 calls from citizens of Jackson County since February of 1995; and,

WHEREAS, COMBAT has taken legal action in over 2,000 drug houses; more than 700 children, women and adults get treatment for substance abuse each month; nearly $60 million in drugs have been seized throughout Jackson County and violent crime in Kansas City is down 9% from last year; and,

WHEREAS, over 50 special events will be held throughout the County to inform the citizens of substance abuse services offered through COMBAT and the availability and progress of COMBAT programs; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature does hereby join County Executive Katheryn Shields in recognizing the importance of awareness and education in fighting illicit drug...
