Body
WHEREAS, every year the American Sons of Columbus honors a woman of Italian descent living in the metropolitan area who personifies characteristics which reflect strong American citizenship and pride and love for her Italian heritage; and,


WHEREAS, the 2005 recipient of the Columbian of the Year award is Donna Ross Slaughter, a woman whose love for her Italian ancestry and devotion to the community is unparalleled; and,

WHEREAS, Donna Ross Slaughter is the daughter of Frank Ross, Sr., and Fanny (DeFeo) Ross and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph G. Ross and Mr. and Mrs. John DeFeo; and,

WHEREAS, Donna was raised in Northeast Kansas City as a third generation Kansas City native and attended Glennon High School and Avila College; and,

WHEREAS, Donna and her husband, Leonard, are the proud parents of Nikki Slaughter McCray and Courtney Slaughter O'Farrell, and proud grandparents of two grandsons and one granddaughter; and,
WHEREAS, Donna has also been involved in a number of organizations within the greater Kansas City community including the following: The Lyric Opera Circle (Ball Chairman and President), The Symphony League (member and former board member), Johnson County Parks and Recreation-Theater in the Park (former board member), The American Royal (Chairman, Student Ambassador Scholarship Program), Starlight Theater Gala, Threads and Threads, Pets on Parade, Miniature Museum Anniversary Celebration, Within the Ribbon Golf Tournament, Research Center, and the River Market Development (board member); and,

WHEREAS, in addition to her busy schedule, Donna still takes time to enjoy golfing, traveling, and spending time with her ...
