Body
WHEREAS, the Director of Public Works recommends that all food handlers at establishments operating under the County's jurisdiction receive training in safe and proper procedures for the handling of food; and,
WHEREAS, the Health Department of the City of Independence, Missouri, is able to provide food handler training and the issuance of food handler permits to those employed by food establishments within the County's jurisdiction; and,
WHEREAS, the City currently charges a $15.00 fee for such training and permits, which fee would not apply to persons working without compensation for a nonprofit entity or to persons aged 65 or older; and,
WHEREAS; the permits are currently valid for a period of three years; and,
WHEREAS, the County would not impose any additional fee for such training and permit; and,
WHEREAS, the requirement of such training and permitting is in the best interests of the health, welfare, and safety, of the citizens of Jackson County; now therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, as follows:
Section A. Enacting Clause.
Sections 4028. and 4029., Jackson County Code, 1984, are hereby enacted, to read as follows:
4028. Food Handler, Permit Required.
No person shall prepare, handle, or dispense food for human consumption, or come into contact with food or food preparation utensils, at any Food Establishment, unless that person has applied for and obtained a food handler permit, with fifteen days of commencement of employment or operation of an establishment, from the City of Independence, Missouri, Health Department.
