AN ORDINANCE appropriating $23,000.00 from the fund balance of the 2010 Grant Fund in acceptance of the Sheriff's Office "Sobriety Checkpoint" grant awarded by the Missouri Department of Transportation, Highway Safety Division, and authorizing the County Executive to execute a contract with the Missouri Highway Safety Division for the expenditure of the grant funds.

Body
WHEREAS, Jackson County remains second in the number of alcohol-related traffic accidents and first for alcohol related fatalities in the state; and,
WHEREAS, the Missouri Department of Transportation, Highway Safety Division, has awarded the Sheriff's Office a "Sobriety Checkpoint" grant in the amount of $23,000.00 for the period October 1, 2010, through September 30, 2011; and,
WHEREAS, the Sheriff recommends the use of the grant funds for reimbursement of overtime used for setting up sobriety checkpoints, other alcohol-enforcement related activities, and providing portable heaters and toilets for the checkpoints; and,
WHEREAS, an appropriation is necessary to place the grant funds in the appropriate spending accounts; now therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the following appropriation from the fund balance of the 2010 Grant Fund be and hereby is made:
