WHEREAS, Dave G. Ruf, Jr., is retiring after 43 years of service to the firm of Burns & McDonnell and the community of Jackson County; and,
WHEREAS, Robert received his early education at Westport High School and the former Kansas City, Missouri, Junior College. He went on to college to major in civil engineering at the University of Kansas; and,
WHEREAS, immediately after college, he began his engineering career at Burns & McDonnell, headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri; and,
WHEREAS, Ruf led a team of corporate officers at Burns & McDonnell who bought the firm back from Armco Steel and established an employee stock ownership plan, placing ownership of the firm completely in its employees' hands; and,
WHEREAS, in 1984, Ruf was named president of Burns & McDonnell, and in 1993 he was named chief executive officer and chairman of the board of directors; and,
WHEREAS, his experience in public service includes serving as past president of the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers-Western Chapter and the American Council of Engineering Companies of Missouri, serving as diplomate of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers; and,
WHEREAS, his professional memberships include National Society of Professional Engineers, Professional Engineers in Private Practice, American Water Works Association, American Public Works Association, Society of American Military Engineers, Water Environment Federation, and Society for Marketing Professional Services; and,
