RESOLUTION NO. 18061, January 7, 2013

Body
WHEREAS, the Jackson County Circuit Court has established the James T. Nunnelly Award to recognize the outstanding dedication and perseverance of a graduating member of the Jackson County Drug Court; and,

WHEREAS, this award is named in honor of James T. Nunnelly in appreciation of Jim's commitment to innovations in the criminal justice system; and,

WHEREAS, Jim has over 30 years of commitment to building healthy communities through the creation of cutting edge public health programs and he oversaw the implementation of the Jackson County Community-Backed Anti-Drug Tax (COMBAT) program; and,

WHEREAS, it is through Jim's efforts that the Jackson County Drug Court was created twenty years ago to address the substance abuse treatment needs of individuals involved in non-violent crime; and,

WHEREAS, Jim's leadership led to innovative strategies that brought treatment, prevention, and law enforcement together to develop highly commendable results; and,

WHEREAS, Jim is a graduate of the University of Missouri - Columbia and the University of Michigan; and,

WHEREAS, Jim is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions for his work in youth development and substance abuse public health and he was recently named as one of the most influential Kansas Citians by the Kansas City Star and one of the most influential African Americans by the Kansas City Globe; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates James T. Nunnelly of the occasion of the establishment of the James T. Nunnelly Award.
