Body

WHEREAS, JROTC Cadet Karac Lindsey, a senior at Van Horn - East High School, recently accepted an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point; and,

WHEREAS, Cadet Lindsey accepted his appointment, which is accompanied by a full four-year scholarship, after a rigorous application process which included interviews with a regional representative of West Point and Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II; and,

WHEREAS, West Point was founded on March 16, 1802, and is an integral part of the history of the United States; and,

WHEREAS, great leaders such as Generals Grant, Lee, Pershing, MacArthur, Eisenhower, Patton, Schwarzkopf, and Petraeus, are among the more than 50,000 graduates of West Point; and,

WHEREAS, each year, the United States Military Academy admits 1,150 to 1,200 young men and women, seeking a class composition of top scholars, leaders, and athletes, including women and minorities, to maintain a diversified collegiate environment and student body; and,

WHEREAS, to qualify academically at West Point, candidates should have an above average high school or college academic record and must perform well on the ACT or the SAT test; and,

WHEREAS, Cadet Lindsey participated in Advanced Placement classes throughout high school, including Calculus, English and History, and was a member of the football, cross country, and baseball teams; and,

WHEREAS, Cadet Lindsey plans to study information technology, aviation, and medicine; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Cadet Karac Lindsey on earning an appointment to the United States Military...
