RESOLUTION 10322, May 16, 1994

INTRODUCED BY Fred Arbanas, County Legislator

Body
WHEREAS, Shirley Fearon is retiring as President/CEO of Research Mental Health Services, after 25 years of consistently exceptional service to the mental health delivery system in the state of Missouri; and,

WHEREAS, a native of Massachusetts, Mrs. Fearon received a B.S. degree in nursing from Boston University and her Masters degree from the University of Kansas; and,

WHEREAS, Mrs. Fearon is married to Ralph Fearon, Quality Control Manager of AT&T Communications in Lee's Summit, MO; and,

WHEREAS, in 1967 she became involved in the formation of the organization which was to become Research Mental Health Services, including establishing a non-profit board, applying for a federal community mental health center grant, fund raising, building the mental health facility in Lee's Summit and opening for services as a comprehensive center in 1974; and,

WHEREAS, in 1976, Mrs. Fearon became the executive director of the mental health center and was later named President and Chief Executive Officer; and,

WHEREAS, Mrs. Fearon served as a member of the Mayor's Task Force on AIDS and was instrumental in the development of the AIDS Council and also served as the first chairman of the Service Provider Network; and,

WHEREAS, she has also served as a member of the task force involved with the anti-drug sales tax and was very instrumental in helping to revitalize the old St. Mary's Hospital (now Trinity North) into a viable service delivery facility in the downtown area; and,

WHEREAS, Mrs. Fearon's organization affiliations include membership on the Missouri Advisory Council for Comprehensive Psychiatric Services and the Truman Medical Center Board of Governors an...
