Body
WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Kansas City/Jackson, Clay and Platte (LWV KC/J/C/P) is the organization where hands-on work to safeguard democracy leads to civic improvement; and

WHEREAS, LWV is a nonpartisan, political organization that has worked since 1920 to improve our system of government and impact public policies through citizen education and advocacy; and,

WHEREAS, LWV members are constantly striving to serve their communities to make strong, safe, fair and vibrant places to live since receiving the vote in 1920; and,

WHEREAS, the LWV of KC/J/C/P believes in representative government and in the individual liberties established in the Constitution of the United States; and,

WHEREAS, the LWV of KC/J/C/P has always worked to promote the values and process of representative government; and,

WHEREAS, the LWV of KC/J/C/P collaborates with other organizations to achieve mutual goals, increase civic participation, create lasting change in the community and to help make democracy work; and,

WHEREAS, the LWV for 90 years has held the public trust by respectfully bringing elected leaders and the public together through non-partisan, civil means and through thoughtful advancing solutions; and,

WHEREAS, our community has benefitted tremendously from the countless volunteer hours donated by LWV members over its 90 year history of enhancing our democracy; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature proclaims 2010, the "League of Women Voters Making Democracy Work Year" and encourages Jackson County residents to acknowledge and support the Leag...
