Body
WHEREAS, "Out in the Crossroads" is a street festival event to be held October 4 - 5, 2013, to commemorate LGBT History Month; and,
WHEREAS, "Out in the Crossroads" will also serve as a precursor to National Coming Out Day, traditionally held on October 11 of each year; and,
WHEREAS, National Coming Out Day marks the anniversary of the 1987 National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights; and,
WHEREAS, the Kansas City lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community seeks to present a more intimate event that will include concerts, a street dance, and a vendors' market; and,
WHEREAS, the "Out in the Crossroads" event will be held in conjunction with October First Friday Art Walk, with area merchants and restaurants extending specials to those in attendance; and,
WHEREAS, LGBT History Month originated in the United States to bring attention to gay rights issues within society and to promote acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals; and,
WHEREAS, the Kansas City LGBT community hopes to showcase its many facets at this premier event; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby extends best wishes to the Kansas City LGBT community for a successful "Out in the Crossroads" inaugural event.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
