WHEREAS, on November 2, 2010, Ira Anders was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives, representing the 51st District in northwest Independence and Sugar Creek; and,
WHEREAS, Ira campaigned for jobs for the middle class, strong public education, completion of the Lewis and Clark Expressway, campaign finance reform, health care for the uninsured, and an increased confidence in our elected officials; and,
WHEREAS, Ira has a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from Emporia State University and has been actively involved with the Independence School District for 40 years, including serving for 28 years as a district teacher and six years on the Board of Education; and,
WHEREAS, Ira and his wife Nina were honored in 2009 as the Truman Heartland Foundation's Independence Citizens of the Year and with the Brian and Sharon Snyder Historical Preservation Award; and,
WHEREAS, Ira is a member of many civic organizations including the National Frontier Trails Museum, the Bingham Waggoner Historical Society, the Vaile Mansion Society, and the Truman Library Institute, Citizens for Effective Leadership, and is a retired member of Missouri NEA; and,
WHEREAS, Ira is committed to doing his best for the citizens and communities of Independence and Sugar Creek; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Ira Anders on his election to the Missouri House of Representatives for the 51st District, and wishes him much success in the future.
