Body
WHEREAS, Rosemary S. Lowe will celebrate her 80th birthday on May 21, 2006; and,

WHEREAS, Mrs. Lowe is a well known civic leader and has dedicated her time and talents to making a difference in the metropolitan community; and,

WHEREAS, Mrs. Lowe was elected as Democratic Committeewoman of the 14th Ward in 1964, and worked tirelessly with Freedom, Inc., for the historic public accommodation city ordinance outlawing discrimination in the use of public facilities and, years later, received a Distinguished Service Award from Freedom, Inc., for her work and commitment; and,

WHEREAS, Mrs. Lowe was instrumental in the elections of Freedom, Inc., founders, Harold Holliday, Sr. and Leon Jordon, to the Missouri General Assembly; and,

WHEREAS, she is a licensed cosmetologist, was appointed to the Missouri Board of Cosmetology by Governor Joseph Teasdale, serving from 1980 to 1984, and received the licensing board's Distinguished Service Award; and,
WHEREAS, Mrs. Lowe's political savvy won her a place on the Democratic National Committee from 1980 to 1986 and she was the recipient of the Missouri Legislative Black Caucus Foundation Award in 1993; and,

WHEREAS, she has served in many capacities throughout the public sector including the Jackson County Office of Human Relations and Citizen Complaints, Jackson County Domestic Violence Commission, FUTURES Advisory Board, Santa Fe Area Neighborhood Association Council, Kansas City Neighborhood Alliance Board of Directors, and Kansas City Housing Task Force; and,
