Body
WHEREAS, the Board of Domestic Violence Shelters is charged, pursuant to chapter 87 of the Jackson County Code and sections 455.210 et seq., RSMo, with the responsibility of allocating the proceeds of a special fee for the issuance of marriage licenses to eligible shelters for victims of domestic violence located within the County; and,

WHEREAS, the Board has generally allocated said proceeds evenly among the three eligible shelters located within the County; and,

WHEREAS, the Board does not otherwise supervise or oversee the operations of the shelters; and,

WHEREAS, the County Executive has advised that, because of the Board's limited duties, she has difficulty recruiting nine members annually to serve on the board as is now required; and,

WHEREAS, in view of all of the above, the Legislature believes that a five-member board with the three year terms is more appropriate for this function; now therefore,

BE IT ORDAINED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, as follows:

Section A. Enacting Clause. Sections 8701, 8702., and 8703., Jackson County Code, 1984, are hereby repealed and three new sections enacted in lieu thereof, to be known as sections 8701, 8702., and 8703., to read as follow:

8701. Board of Domestic Violence Shelters, Composition.
There shall be [nine (9)] five (5) members of the Board of Domestic Violence Shelters. All members must be residents of Jackson County and hold no other county office.
