Body
WHEREAS, the University of Missouri - Kansas City will be hosting the Midwest Bisexual, Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, and Allied (BLGTA) College Conference on February 7 - 9, 2014; and,
WHEREAS, the Midwest BLGTA College Conference has been held annually since 1993 and is the largest regional LGBT college conference in North America; and,
WHEREAS, the three-day conference will include over 90 educational workshops on various topics, as well as a variety of inspirational speakers and entertainment; and,
WHEREAS, it is expected that approximately 2,000 college students will come to UMKC to attend the upcoming event; and,
WHEREAS, the Midwest BLGTA College Conference promotes leadership, activism, networking, diversity health, and empowerment among LGBTA students, staff and faculty; and,
WHEREAS, the citizens of Jackson County are committed to equality and congratulate UMKC on receiving the honor of hosting this 21st annual event; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby extends congratulations to the University of Missouri - Kansas City and extends a warm welcome to the Midwest BLGTA College Conference attendees.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
