Body
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Wood, daughter of Joe and Mary Wood, is a senior at Lee's Summit North High School and has earned the designation of semi-finalist in the National Merit Scholarship program which will enable her to compete for National Merit Scholarship awards; and,
WHEREAS, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, founded in 1955, conducts an annual National Merit Scholarship competition by administering the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which produces a nationwide pool of semi-finalists representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest scoring entrants in each state; and,
WHEREAS, Elizabeth is in the top 1% of her class and is an International Baccalaureate diploma candidate; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to her exceptional academic status, Elizabeth is a National Honor Society member, Concert Choir member, Crimson Camerata member, school musical participant, 2003 Pre-Calculus Student of the Year, former National Spelling Bee representative for Jackson County (1997 and 1999), and an active member in her church youth group; and,
WHEREAS, Elizabeth plans to attend college with a major in engineering; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Elizabeth Wood as a National Merit Scholarship semi-finalist and extends sincere best wishes for continued success in her endeavors now and in the future.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
