Body
WHEREAS, in June of 1804, the American explorers, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, noted in their journal an auspicious location on the Missouri River at which to build a military and civilian outpost on a young nation's frontier; and,
WHEREAS, in September of 1808, William Clark returned to that location and supervised the construction of what would become Fort Osage; and,
WHEREAS, in conjunction with the Native Sons of Kansas City, Jackson County Parks and Recreation commenced the reconstruction of Fort Osage, dedicating Blockhouse #1 on September 11, 1948; and,
WHEREAS, for the past 50 years, Fort Osage has served as a tangible link with the courage, tenacity and heritage of our ancestors; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature recognizes the contributions Fort Osage, a national historic landmark, has made to the understanding and appreciation of our rich historical and cultural past in Jackson County.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
